Arrest Control Tactics
Arrest Control Techniques are those techniques designed for the officer to safely and effectively take a suspect into custody. The foundation for these techniques is based on one of the Principles of the Koga Method, the Principle of Control.

While control is generally described as “the degree of influence an officer exerts over a violator to take him or her safely into custody”, the principle of Control goes further. A student of Koga Arrest Control Techniques learns the difference between general and physical control as well as how to, and the necessity to, control oneself. Only through self control can an officer expect to be able to control others.

The field of Arrest Control Tactics includes approaching and contacting a suspect, the principles of searching and handcuffing techniques. But it is not limited to these techniques. The officer will also understand vicarious liability, control, escalation and de-escalation of force, the dangers of emotional response and awareness, awareness, not only of the officers surroundings, but also of what the officer is doing and why.

The search and handcuffing techniques include the low profile, standing modified, kneeling and prone control search techniques, how to maintain control of the suspect in each, how to properly handcuff in each technique and how to safely, effectively and humanely overcome resistance.
